See where a QR link really goes - checked on your device, before you tap

A QR code on a parking meter, a restaurant table, a parcel card. You cannot see where it goes until you have already tapped. This app tells you first. THE VERDICT COMES FIRST Every scan opens with a plain answer — SAFE, CAUTION or UNSAFE — and the reasons behind it, in your language. Not everything risky is an emergency, so a shortened link reads as CAUTION while a known phishing domain reads as UNSAFE. A scanner that shouts at everything teaches you to ignore it. WHAT IT CHECKS, ON YOUR DEVICE • Names built to imitate a brand — "paypal.com" written with a Cyrillic letter looks identical on screen but is a different address entirely. So does "paypal.com.example.ru", where the real owner is someone else. • Encoded addresses, decoded and shown, so you see what a name actually reads as. • Links that install an app instead of opening a page. • Numeric addresses, hidden destinations, credentials smuggled into a link, unusual ports, unencrypted connections, and link shorteners. • A blocklist of 44,000+ known malware and phishing domains, bundled with the app and updated weekly. It works with no connection. BEFORE YOU PAY Payment and parking codes get a short checklist first, because the common attack is a sticker placed over the real code — something no software can see by reading the payload. Bank transfer codes have their account number checksum-verified, and merchant codes are checked against their own integrity code. Cryptocurrency addresses are verified properly, so a single altered character is caught before an irreversible transfer. EVERY KIND OF CODE 12+ formats: QR, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, Codabar, PDF417, Data Matrix, Aztec. Recognises links, Wi-Fi networks, contact cards, calendar events, locations, email, phone, SMS, 2FA codes, wallet addresses, product barcodes and book ISBNs. HISTORY THAT STAYS YOURS Search, filter and sort every scan. Favourites, custom names, duplicate detection. Back up to Google Drive or to a local file. BUILT TO BE READABLE Dark and light mode with 18 colour themes, AMOLED black, high contrast, five font families including a dyslexia-friendly option, and text scaling up to 2x. Fully translated into 12 languages, including right-to-left Arabic. WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT DO It does not follow a shortened link to see where it lands — that would mean contacting the very site you are wary of, on your behalf. It cannot tell you whether a page is honest once you arrive, and it cannot see a sticker placed over a printed code. It reports what a code contains and what is structurally wrong with it. Anyone claiming more than that is guessing. PERMISSIONS Camera, to scan. Internet, for blocklist updates and optional lookups. That is the list. Version 1.3.0 removed contacts access and the run-at-startup permission, because neither earned its place. WHAT LEAVES YOUR DEVICE The safety checks run entirely on your phone — a scanned link is never sent anywhere to be checked. Separately, and only when relevant: the blocklist downloads its weekly update, scanning a product barcode or ISBN queries the Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts and Google Books databases, a link may fetch its own preview, ads are served, and Drive backup uploads only when you ask it to. No account is required to scan.
