BeeCard, a promising technological ecosystem for a sustainable lifestyle

The BeeCard is an ecological digital and customizable communication business card that centralizes all the information that a person or company wishes to share with their customers or contacts. • The impact of paper on the environment: Paper has a major impact on our environment. Billions of trees are cut down each year by logging companies to supply paper product manufacturers. • Paper production requires a lot of trees: Trees are the raw material for making paper products; they are harvested for their cellulose fibers. Every day we use paper in different forms: notebooks, journals, laminated documents, toilet paper, etc. Unfortunately, our consumption requires the felling of billions of trees each year, which continues to increase the rate of deforestation across the planet. • Paper production causes air pollution: The pulp and paper industry is one of the largest environmental polluters in the world. In the United States alone, industry is responsible for 20% of all industrial releases of toxic waste into the air. During paper production, various toxic gases are emitted from factories. These gases are ammonia, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, nitrates, mercury, benzene, methanol, volatile organic compounds and chloroform. • Water pollution : Pulp and paper production not only causes air pollution, but also water pollution. It alone is responsible for 9% of all industrial discharges of toxic waste into bodies of water in the United States. • Produce multiple solid wastes: Solid waste from paper production pollutes water. Every day, millions of people throw away paper products. Some of this waste ends up in landfills, which is tragic because paper-based products could be recycled, increasing their life cycle. • Paper production contributes to global greenhouse gas emissions: We know that paper production generates toxic gases and waste. Some of these gasses are greenhouse gases (GHG). According to research, about 21% of these greenhouse gases come from pulp and paper mills. Most emissions take place during the paper production phase. The rest of GHGs come from deforestation and landfill emissions. • Use of energy: Did you know that the pulp and paper industry is the fifth largest consumer of energy resources in the world? It uses around 4 to 5% of the world’s energy [5]. Additionally, billions of trees and tons of water are needed to produce paper products for the world's growing population.
