Glory be to God, praise be to God, there is no god but God, and God is great
Ahmad narrated in his Musnad, on the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Increase your recitation of the enduring good deeds." It was asked, "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The religion." It was asked again, "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The religion." It was asked a third time, "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The religion." It was asked a fourth time, "What are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Saying 'Allahu Akbar' (God is Greatest), 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but God), 'Subhanallah' (Glory be to God), 'Alhamdulillah' (All praise is due to God), and 'La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (There is no power nor strength except with God)." Shu'ayb al-Arna'ut said: "This hadith is hasan li-ghayrihi (good due to supporting narrations)." In another hadith he narrated, he said: "Saying 'Subhanallah,' 'Alhamdulillah,' 'La ilaha illallah,' and 'Allahu Akbar' are the enduring good deeds." Shu'ayb al-Arna'ut authenticated it. Malik narrated a similar hadith in his Muwatta', as did Ibn Hibban in his Sahih, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Al-Hakim also narrated a similar hadith from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri in his Mustadrak. Al-Albani included it in his Silsilah al-Sahihah, saying: "Saying 'Subhanallah,' 'Alhamdulillah,' 'La ilaha illallah,' and 'Allahu Akbar' are among the enduring good deeds." Regarding the encouragement to remember God Almighty with it, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Take your shield.” They said: “O Messenger of God, from an enemy who is present?” He said: “No, rather from the Fire.” We said: “What is our shield from the Fire?” He said: “Glory be to God, and praise be to God, and there is no god but God, and God is the Greatest, and there is no power nor strength except with God.” For they will come on the Day of Resurrection as forerunners, followers, and protectors, and they are the enduring good deeds. [Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah] The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described this collection of supplications with several noble attributes. They protect their reciter from Hellfire and place him among the righteous. Furthermore, they remain even after one's deeds cease and the reciter passes away.
