SBD Carbohydrate Counting App. Updated Edition 4.0.
Carbohydrate counting has been recommended by scientific societies in Brazil and worldwide for over 20 years – especially for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. This strategy differs from others mainly because it improves quality of life and offers a range of food options for people with diabetes. Carbohydrate counting is based on the principles of healthy eating, which should include all food groups. The secret lies in the relationship between the appropriate quantity of food and its association with medication. Therefore, the work of a nutritionist within a multidisciplinary team is fundamental, specifically for individualizing the dietary plan according to the individual's nutritional needs. To fully benefit from this strategy, a consistent manual on the nutritional information of foods is necessary. The Brazilian Diabetes Society launched the first Official Carbohydrate Counting Manual in 2003, which has since been improved with an expanded list of foods to meet the needs of people with diabetes. This app was developed to manage calorie and carbohydrate intake, also allowing you to track blood glucose levels throughout the day. It's an important tool in your diabetes management process, but it should not be used for any therapeutic decisions without prior guidance from your doctor. Version 4.0 has an updated food table and includes new features such as: bolus calculation, recording of the administered insulin dose, and carbohydrate target.
