Taquaral Supermarket 63 years of Brazil in two centuries of history The history of Supermercado Taquaral begins in the 1950s, when the young and idealistic Mr. Manuel Matos, eldest son of Mr. José de Matos, leaves his father, mother and four brothers in the small town of Carvoeiro, in the interior of Portugal, to cross the Atlantic. The natural beauty, climate and continental size of the tropical country impressed the boy as soon as he arrived in Brazil, after leaving the old continent just after the Second World War. His dream was to build a prosperous life in Brazilian lands, which at the time attracted international attention due to economic growth, opportunities and the purpose of development encouraged by the Target Plans of Juscelino Kubitschek's government. At that time, the family could not have imagined that in a few months they would all be together in the Taquaral neighborhood, in Campinas – SP, for the inauguration of Armazém Taquaral, a modest food store that the family created at the already known address. The purpose of the old warehouse was to serve the neighborhood of the prosperous neighborhood, which gained importance by attracting traditional families in search of a wooded area, in addition to offering an excellent structure such as a pharmacy, churches, schools and even a hospital. Six decades later, the Alves de Matos Family celebrates the arrival of their Brazilian descendants, their solid roots both in the country and in the city that welcomed them, in addition to the expansion of their timid warehouse, today a modern supermarket, with more than 4 thousand m² of extension made up of a team capable of offering approximately 40 thousand items to its customers, whether in a physical or virtual environment.
