GlobalSurgBox lets trainees record, upload, and get feedback for training.
The GlobalSurgBox (GSB) app expands access to high-quality surgical education by allowing trainees to learn and practice skills remotely using the GlobalSurgBox simulator. Trainees can watch expert-led teaching videos, record their own practice sessions, and submit videos for asynchronous faculty review. Faculty provide targeted, time-stamped text or audio feedback within the app, creating a flexible, interactive learning process that supports deliberate practice and continuous improvement. The GSB app features a modular curriculum combining didactic instruction with hands-on skills training. Lessons are appropriate for all levels, from medical students learning basic instrument handling to residents performing advanced vascular and cardiac anastomoses. Institutions can assign lessons to meet specific training objectives or integrate them into standardized curricula. Modules include: Two-handed, one-handed, and slip knots How to use a needle driver Simple interrupted and running sutures Horizontal, vertical, and subcuticular mattress sutures Two-layer bowel anastomosis End-to-end vascular anastomosis Vascular patch and aortic repairs Distal and proximal coronary anastomoses (CABG) By pairing guided instruction with asynchronous, time-stamped faculty feedback, the app supports skill acquisition at the learner’s own pace, making surgical training more accessible and scalable. The platform is ideal for individuals seeking supplemental practice and for institutions aiming to implement competency-based skills curricula. If you or your institution are interested in adopting the GlobalSurgBox curriculum, please contact globalsurgbox@gmail.com for more information. [Minimum supported app version: 1.0.1]
