NIP is a new Othello-type game played on a circular board. Unlike regular Othello, it requires strategies that take advantage of the circular structure.
1. What is NIP? NIP is a strategic board game that expands the standard Othello (Reversi) onto a circular board. The board consists of eight radial lines and three circles (inner, middle, and outer), which intersect to create a total of 24 squares. Players take turns placing black and white pieces, flipping their opponent's pieces to their own color by surrounding them. The basic rules are similar to Othello, but the circular board creates unique strategies. 2. Special Rules on the Circumference (Important) The most distinctive feature of NIP is "circumference-based sandwiching." The outer, middle, and inner circles form a continuous loop, resulting in sandwiching mechanics different from standard Othello. For example, if pieces are arranged clockwise along the circumference as "black โ white โ white โ black," all white pieces in between will be flipped to black. This is because the circular lines form a loop. This rule eliminates the concept of edges on the board. Even seemingly safe positions can be surrounded by pieces moving around the circumference, requiring a strategy that always considers the overall layout.
