He was born in the Menoufia Governorate of Egypt and was distinguished by his melodious voice and masterful recitation of the Holy Quran with Tajweed. He worked as a reciter on Egyptian radio and recorded the complete Recited Quran. He is considered one of the leading figures in Quranic recitation in the twentieth century.
