Southco Distributing Company was established in 1981 with the purchase of Southern Wholesale Company. In 1984 the company expanded into a new location on 701 Patetown Road and remained at that location for 20 years. After serving as President of Southco, Sherwin Herring purchased the company in 1996. Outgrowing the Patetown Road location, Southco Distributing Company expanded to an existing 240,000 square foot building located at 2201 S. John Street in October 2004. Southco Distributing Company has approximately 230 employees. Southco Distributing Company currently serves over 1300 accounts in 5 states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Georgia. All of our shipments originate from our Goldsboro location. Southco is ranked in the top 22 C-Store Distributors in the nation, in the top 13 privately owned businesses in the state of North Carolina, and the largest privately owned company in Wayne County.
