Private dialer + SMS app with on-device AI spam screening. No cloud.
Quelr is a privacy-first replacement for your phone's default dialer and SMS app, with on-device AI spam screening for both, plus voicemail transcription, live-call notes and a built-in authenticator. Set it as your default Phone app and default SMS app to use it. Everything happens on your device. There is no account, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising SDK. The app does not send your calls, contacts, messages or codes anywhere. MEET ARIA Aria is Quelr's on-device AI. It runs Gemma 4 via LiteRT-LM on your phone ā a one-time ~2.6 GB download, after which your queries never leave the device. Aria's job: ⢠Answer questions about your own calls and messages ā "what did Mom text me" ā by reading them here on the phone. Nothing is sent anywhere, and blocking a number always asks you first. ⢠Explain WHY a call or message looks like spam, alongside the raw rule signals, so you can audit it. ⢠Summarize voicemails and make them searchable. ⢠Suggest 3 replies in Compose. ⢠Take live notes during calls (your side only). Aria is opt-in. Skip the download and the app runs on rule-engine signals alone; turn it on later from Settings. WHAT IT DOES ⢠Screens incoming calls before your phone rings, using a Conservative default ruleset: only a known-blocklisted number is auto-rejected, and a single suspicious signal at most silences the call. You see the verdict and the evidence before you answer. ⢠Screens incoming SMS the same way. Spam routes to a "Junk" thread, still readable ā nothing is deleted. ⢠Imports the messages already on your device when you make it your default SMS app, so conversations don't start empty ā copied as-is, never screened, never re-filed. ⢠Real dialer with as-you-type formatting, and contact detail with call/text/video/email actions. ⢠Voicemail with playback, transcript and summary. ⢠Authenticator codes: a built-in vault for your two-factor sign-in codes, encrypted behind a master password. Add by QR scan or by typing a key, or import from Bitwarden, Aegis, 2FAS or Google Authenticator. Save an encrypted backup any time. ⢠Dark visual system with reduced-motion mode. ⢠Block a sender in one tap from Recents or a conversation ā it applies to calls and SMS alike. ⢠Stores everything in the app's private database, with Export and one-tap Wipe All Data in Settings. PRIVACY DEFAULTS ⢠Notifications: the title is the sender's name, the content "New message". Opt in to body previews in Settings. ⢠Contacts: read live to show names instead of numbers. Deny it and you see numbers. ⢠Region: from SIM, network or locale ā no device identifiers. ⢠Authenticator codes: your master password is never stored and cannot be reset by us. The vault locks itself when you leave the app, and codes stay hidden until you tap one. The camera only reads the QR code in front of it ā no photo is kept. ⢠Aria model: downloaded once over HTTPS ā the only off-device traffic from the AI surface. Every answer is computed locally. WHAT IT NEEDS To screen calls it needs to be your Default Phone app and hold the Caller ID & Spam role; to screen SMS, your Default SMS app. Voicemail needs the Read Voicemail permission, in-call notes the Microphone, and a two-factor QR scan the Camera. Grant any subset ā the unused surface stays dormant, and Settings lets you change your mind. WHAT IT WON'T DO ⢠Send your data anywhere, show ads, or ask you to sign up. ⢠Read or write the system Call Log. Quelr asks for no Call Log permission; Recents shows only calls this app screened itself. ⢠Handle MMS, RCS or multi-SIM compose in v1. ⢠Transcribe the remote party's audio during a call ā Android does not grant apps access to that stream. ⢠Sync your authenticator codes. They stay on this phone unless you export them yourself. WHAT'S OPEN Full source at github.com/1martianway/phone, privacy policy at https://quelr-phone.web.app/privacy.html.
