Museu Bordalo Pinheiro

The Museum originates from the important Bordalo collection assembled by Arthur Ernesto Santa Cruz Magalhães (1864-1928). Besides being a collector, Cruz Magalhães was a poet, pamphleteer, critic, and humorist, and an unconditional admirer of Rafael Bordalo's work, having founded a museum in homage to the artist, which he directed until his death. The commission for the Campo Grande residence, designed by architect Álvaro Augusto Machado (1874-1944), dates from 1913, and where the collection would be installed.
