Alpha Minders is a game that both trains the child's ability to learn and provides basic reading training. The game is designed for children aged 4-7 who want to enhance their emotional inteligence and readingskills. Alpha Minders is also suitable for children who struggle to learn to read. We have a dedicated module about feelings. What are the different feelings and what do they feel like? Alpha Minders is a game that teaches children the alphabet's 26 letters as well as all the letters' individual sounds (phonemes). When the child is ready, word training can begin. The words in the game are selected based on the wishes of special education teachers and regular teachers. Many of the words are so-called high-frequency words. By being able to read and recognize these words, reading speed will increase, and reading comprehension can be achieved faster and better. The letter and word exercises are found in one of a total of three activity areas in the Alpha Minders world. The number of letters and words in a given sequence will increase in line with the child's progression, providing important working memory training along with extensive practice in letter and word learning. The Fire Temple consists of a wheel with flames in three different colors. The child's task is to remember which flame colors are described with their English color names in the correct order. The latter is working memory training. The number of flames increases as the child remembers the correct sequence. The amount will be adjusted automatically based on how much the child remembers, thereby continuously giving the child something to strive for. The entities that we find in the third activity area are small trees arranged in rows. Here, it is pure working memory training, where the task is to remember the order in which the trees move. It starts with a few trees, but the number is adjusted up (or down) based on what the child can remember. The goal is to be at the outer limit of what the working memory can handle, in order to improve capacity and give the child something to strive for. Similar features for all three activities are that the child receives rewards based on the results achieved. The rewards are different types of food that the dragon needs to grow big and strong. After each activity, the child can give their dragon food, as well as cuddle it and hear the cozy sounds it makes. Alpha Minders was created in collaboration with special education teachers, The Arctic University of Tromsø and the children, where the children themselves chose the various characters. Throughout the game, the child's own dragon will hatch and grow in line with the development the child achieves in the game. Its recomended to sitt beside the child during social skills reading.
