Official vote totals are published by each state's election authority (Secretary of State or State Board of Elections) and aggregated by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission at https://www.eac.gov. Voters can compare recordings made with Actual Vote against these official government sources. Actual Vote lets you make video recordings of election poll tapes — the long strips of paper printed by tabulating machines that contain publicly viewable government information like precinct names and vote totals. Actual Vote does not create or alter this information; it simply helps citizens record documents that election officials have already posted in public view. How it works: Sign in and select your state. Access a publicly posted poll tape at your local voting precinct. Use the app to record a video of the poll tape from top to bottom. Your recording is automatically uploaded, reviewed by our team, and — once approved — published on https://av.democracycounts.org.
