Ear training and sight-singing are critical components in every formal music education institution. Music theory concepts are rudimentary skills used by musicians in order to identify pitches, intervals, scales, chords, rhythms, and other basic elements of music. Moreover, sight-singing is the process by which a student reads and subsequently sings written music notation without prior exposure to the material. Ear training is analogous to writing a spoken text, much like taking dictation. Sight-singing is analogous to reading a written text aloud.
