Upbrella is a shared umbrella service that lets you rent an umbrella when you need it and return it to a nearby location when you're done. It was launched to reduce the need to constantly buy new umbrellas due to sudden rain or to accumulate unused umbrellas at home. Instead of owning individual umbrellas, it allows for shared use within the city. Previously, people rented umbrellas online, but in practice, rainy days were a time-consuming and cumbersome process. Therefore, we developed an app to simplify and streamline the rental process. 1. Convenient Rentals The Upbrella app significantly improves accessibility. Unlike the web, the app eliminates the need to log in or re-enter payment information. Once you set up your account and payment method, simply open the app and take a photo of the rental information displayed on your umbrella to rent. This simplifies the rental process, eliminating the need to navigate the website or re-enter information every time you need an umbrella. Simply launch the app and you're ready to go, even in sudden rain, reducing unnecessary time and stress. 2. Check Rental Locations in Real Time The Upbrella app is designed to help you quickly see if there are any available umbrellas at your current location. Opening the app displays all available rental locations on a map, with the number of umbrellas currently available at each location displayed in real time. Have you ever experienced a sudden downpour, only to find there are no umbrellas left? These moments often make people feel uncomfortable about renting. However, with the map, users can quickly select the nearest rental location with available umbrellas, eliminating the need to walk long distances and then back again. Returning is also straightforward. Simply select a rental location within your route and the process is seamless. The key isn't rules, but the smooth flow of the process. 3. My Page The Upbrella app lets you see how you've used your umbrella at a glance on the My Page. It displays everything from the due date of your current rental, whether the return was processed successfully, and the total number of times you've rented it. Umbrella rental isn't a one-time, fleeting piece of information; it's a natural part of the user's lifestyle. My Page also goes beyond simple usage history, showing numerical data on how much sharing has reduced unnecessary umbrella purchases and contributed to the environment. While a single rental may seem like a small gesture, repeated use can significantly reduce the amount of umbrellas discarded in cities and contribute to preventing environmental pollution caused by their production and disposal.
